ORLANDO, FL — Color Osprey Custom Homes green.
The award-winning, family-owned company whose roots go back more than half a century is the latest builder to join the ranks of the environmentally friendly.
Builder Anthony Lightman says all new home construction by Osprey Custom Homes will employ the energy efficient, environmentally friendly "green" principles, starting with Braemar, a new 49-home infill community of million-dollar estate homes in Gotha that is now underway.
"Energy efficiency has always factored in our construction but not to the degree that it is now or will be in the future," says Lightman. "We believe it's the responsible approach to take."
Toward that end, all Osprey homes will meet the standards for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. The end product will be homes with better air quality, reduced maintenance costs and a healthier environment.
"It's a win-win for all concerned — us as the builder, the homebuyer and the environment," says Lightman.
Although Osprey Custom Homes specializes in high-end homes priced at $1 million and up, Lightman says his buyers are very interested in lowering electric bills and water consumption costs and doing what they can to help the environment.
"Regardless of one's economic situation, everyone is looking for viable ways to efficiently reduce their home's operating costs," says Lightman. "And if you can do that and help the environment at the same time, that's a big plus."
As part of its commitment to "green," Osprey is incorporating a number of energy-saving approaches in its construction, including the use of renewable and environmentally friendly materials, the use of natural lighting and alternative energy sources and extensive landscaping with native plants and foliage.
"We don't see this as a temporary craze, we see it as a trend that is here to stay and we have taken the necessary steps to respond," says Lightman.
Specializing in the booming southwest Orlando market, Osprey Custom Homes is recognized as one of Central Florida's premier custom builders. Over the past five years, the company has been one of the area's busiest builders, building nearly 90 homes and posting approximately $93 million in sales volume, including $27 million last year in a soft housing market.
In addition to its new Braemar community, Osprey also is building in Keene's Pointe, The Reserve at Belmere and Lake Hancock Reserve at Independence.
