(08 OBJ BUILDER RANKINGS 1)
August 11, 2008
ORLANDO, FL - Osprey Custom Homes, a mainstay in the area's luxury, high-end market for the past 12 years, was ranked among the Top 10 custom homebuilders in Central Florida for the third consecutive year, according to the latest industry rankings released this month by ORLANDO BUSINESS JOURNAL (OBJ).
In its annual listing of Central Florida's leading custom craftsmen, OBJ ranked the MetroWest-based company No. 9 among all custom builders operating in Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Lake counties based on the dollar value of homes sold in 2007.
Osprey Custom Homes, a family-run company whose roots span more than half a century, rang up $13.7 million in sales volume last year on four luxury home sales – an average of about $3.43 million a sale, says builder Anthony Lightman.
If anything, Osprey, which recently captured an Aurora Award for having the best "solar energy home in the Southeast," has been a model of consistency. It is the ninth straight year that 12-year-old company has made the elite builder list and the fourth time it has cracked the magazine's Top 10 – a feat even more remarkable because of a sour economy.
Last year on OBJ's 2006 Builder List which recognized both semi- and custom builders together, Osprey ranked No. 7 on the strength of 15 home sales for $27 million. The only other time Osprey reached the Top 10 was in 2003 when it was No. 10 after registering $11.1 million in sales. In 2005, Osprey ranked No. 3 when it chalked up a record $34 million in sales. It reached the Top 10 for the first time in 2003 when it posted $11.1 million to rank No. 10.
After several years of cataloging both semi-custom and custom builders together, OBJ decided to base this year's list solely on custom craftsmen – home's built per an owner's specifications using an owner's original blueprints.
"We're happy with the consistency we've been able to maintain despite difficult economic times that have hurt our housing market," says Lightman. "It's a great honor to be recognized among the best in your industry, especially when you consider all the outstanding custom builders operating in Central Florida."
Over the past five years, Osprey has been one of the area's busiest builders, building more than 90 homes and posting nearly $100 million in sales volume over that period.
The company currently is building in Keene's Pointe, The Reserve at Belmere, Lake Hancock Reserve at Independence in Horizons West and Braemar, an exclusive 49-home lakefront community in Gotha which earned Osprey its Aurora Award for its energy efficient Kingston model.
